What is a magnetic Stirrer?

Welcome guys !!! To a new blog today.

I hope everyone is safe and healthy. Keeping that a priority lets start today’s blog.

Topic for today is magnetic stirrer.

I worked with it today in my lab for my project and it was my first time with this. I also got to know this is pretty common in chemical and bio labs.

Lets take a look into them today.

The stirrer can be classified into a two part machine, in which it contains a magnetic bar and a rotating magnetic field generator.

Magnetic Bar

The magnetic bar is small primarily capsule like bar. The bar is then acts as a stirrer when placed inside the liquid solution. The magnetic bar then rotates on its own center with the help of attraction and repulsion forces between the electromagnet in the generator and the magnetic bar. The magnetic bar has a resistant coating to chemicals to avoid contamination.

I also used a stir bar retriever, which is basically a strong magnet which helps us to remove the bar from the solution after it is done.

Rotating Magnetic Field Generator

This is the other part of the setup and produces a rotating magnetic field using poly phase currents which produce out of phase magnetic fields and which in-turn rotate a magnet and which in-turn turns the magnetic bar.

I could tell and speak about this but it would become a blog of its own and doesnot cover the topic we cover in these blogs. I was thinking to share about the materials that are used in future blogs. That would give you a better understanding.

Guys, Please feel free to comment about the topic and any different topics you would like to read about.

Thank You.
